Prospective Patients

If you will be a patient soon, click here for information on how to prepare.

What kind of cardiac rehabilitation is involved after a typical procedure?
There is a general rehabilitation process whenever a patient has a bypass, valve replacement, transplant or other cardiac surgical procedure. There will be a team of physicians and specialists working with you to achieve a full recovery. Normally some form of light exercise begins while you are still in the hospital. Within two to six weeks after a hospital stay, you begin an outpatient regime to improve your endurance, set you on a lifestyle pattern that is supportive and assist in making any necessary adjustments. After six to 14 weeks, an ongoing exercise program is developed and most normal work or home-based activities can resume.
